Buyers ordering small batches for a launch event or a short-run gift program run into it fast, and most suppliers don't explain why it exists — just that it does. Here's the actual reason, and the two ways to work around it. ## Why MOQ exists in the first place Custom bags require setup: fabric cutting to spec, colour matching, print or embroidery setup, and sometimes a dedicated production run at the factory. That setup cost is fixed whether you order 50 pieces or 5,000. Spread over a small batch, the per-piece cost becomes uneconomical for both the supplier and the buyer. MOQ is the volume at which that setup cost stops dominating the unit price. At D'Arts, custom orders carry a 500-piece MOQ. Accept the fixed colour range and the higher per-piece print cost as the trade-off for speed and commitment to exactly what is needed. Less overflow inventory to worry about here. * **500+ pieces, six weeks or more of lead time** — custom production gives you a lower unit cost at volume and a bag built to spec, not adapted from one. Neither option is the "better" one in the abstract. They solve different problems. A launch event next month needs ready stock. A recurring annual gifting program with a six-month planning cycle should be on custom. Sometimes, it may even be possible to add on a smaller batch of custom order on an existing order – that is advantage of dealing with us.
