Each year, we've found new and creative ways to engage the public, spark conversations about sustainability, and demonstrate that making environmentally conscious choices doesn't have to be difficult. Year 2024: Spreading the Word on Sustainable Materials Our first Go Green SG campaign focused on education. We wanted Singaporeans to understand why the materials we carry our groceries in actually matter. Through our promotion, we offered **24% off on select high-quality jute and canvas bags** — not just as a sales initiative, but as an invitation to make the switch from single-use plastics to durable, sustainable alternatives. Year 2025: Getting Curious About Jute In our second year, we leaned into awareness in a more engaging way. Jute is fast-growing, requires minimal pesticides, and is 100% biodegradable. Yet many consumers reach for it without knowing its remarkable story. This campaign was our way of building a deeper connection between people and the products they choose — because when you understand where something comes from, you value it more. Year 2026: Trading Plastic for Purpose This year, we took our most hands-on approach yet. Our **Plastic for Jute Exchange** programme, running from 15 May to 15 June 2026, invited members of the public to bring in 10 clean plastic bags in exchange for a free jute shopping bag. The mechanics were simple but intentional. Plastic bags had to be at least A4-sized carrier bags — not the small vegetable bags or takeaway drink bags that are too flimsy to reuse. By setting this standard, we ensured that the bags collected were ones that would otherwise end up in landfill, and that every exchange represented a genuine reduction in plastic waste. By the close of this campaign, D'Arts and Designs will have given out **20 jute bags** in exchange for **200 plastic bags** collected from the community. Those 200 plastic bags will be sent for proper recycling — staying out of our oceans and out of our environment. It's a small number in the grand scheme of Singapore's plastic consumption. But we believe firmly that change begins with individual actions, and that every plastic bag diverted is a step worth taking.
